Small businesses are having to contend with a difficult bureaucracy and high taxes. They struggle to make their businesses succeed while dealing with an unforgiving and inflexible process. The paperwork - are we still in the paper stage?!? - required is discouraging. Permits needed can be duplicative. These businesses are vital to New Rochelle. The owners are usually one of the biggest supporters of the City but they are not appreciated. Tax incentives are given to Big Box Stores and developers without any clawback when these incentives expire. Many of these businesses are not invested in the future of New Rochelle as much as those who live, work and own in this area. Give these small business owners and potential small business owners reasons to stay, open their business and serve the community in more ways than financial.
