We held our first Meetup of 2017 with over 20 participants. including a visit from Sean McClean, Vice President of Planning and Development with Renaissance Downtowns and Neil Takemoto, Co-founding managing partner of CSPM Group. The evening started off with typical Mexican entrees and sides from the Little Mexican Cafe and then everyone settled in to start the meeting off with some introductions.
After hearing from our community organizer, Sean McClean gave some development updates and also explained RDRXR's approach to development in New Rochelle including a brief explanation to the recommended action plan for the development and the zoning in New Rochelle (for a summary and more details refer to pages 16 -22 on our website here).
After an informative Q & A with Sean, we heard updates from William Iannuzzi and Jordan Campbell about their NR Future Five grant projects. William told us how successful the first roller skating night at the Mascaro Boys & Girls club was with the few skates they have and how many more children they will be able to host on a bi-monthly basis with their purchase of adjustable roller skates. The Roller Skating party will be a safe place for kids to hang out on a weekend beginning February 4, 2017.
Jordan Campbell then proceeded to tell us about the impact of the first pop-up dinner held at the Oasis Shelter in December. Because she received so many donations for her project, she was able to expand her outreach and use her NR Future Five grant money to host another pop-up dinner at the Shelter in January with even more volunteers and keep warm care packages.
The last order of business for the evening was to announce our January grant winners! Songcatchers won a $500 grant for New Music Instruments and Maggie Burke received a $500 grant for the Food Impact Project Soup Kitchen Garden. Make sure to show your support by liking these ideas and don't forget to support the Winter Wonderland Pop-up dinners for the homeless by getting them up to the likes they need!.
Our next Meetup will be on February 8th at 7:00 pm. RSVP here to let us know you're coming!
